Lagos is a city that never stops creating. From cozy lounges to bookshops, there’s always a stage for new voices to shine. Whether you’re a bathroom singer ready to face a real crowd, a poet searching for an audience that truly gets it, or a lover of raw, unfiltered performances, Lagos’ open mic scene has something for you.
Here’s your guide to the best open mic nights in Lagos, where music, poetry, and spoken word come alive.
Ouida, Ikeja
Walking into Ouida, you’re instantly met with books sorted into shelves all around a huge reading table; they have lovely staff, and you can order light meals and snacks. It’s perfect for midday breaks, but there’s more to this space. Every third Thursday of the month, Ouida opens its doors to poets, storytellers, and musicians. Entry costs N1,500.
Freedom Park, Lagos Island.
Freedom Park is not only a Lagos landmark with colonial history, but it’s also one of the hotspots for creatives in Lagos. You can check out more places where creatives hang out in Lagos. Although there are no weekly open mic activities, they host frequent open mic events and competitions.
The View Rooftop Lounge, Lekki.
Located at the top of Twinwaters Towers, it’s one of the most frequently used spots in Lagos for parties and social gatherings. And every Saturday, the doors are open to poets, musicians, performers, dancers, and all available artists. Just show up!
Praia Lagos, Victoria Island.
Praia Lagos is an upscale resto-lounge/bar with an amazing menu for food and cocktails; their pool area is one of my favorite perks. Every Thursday, Praia hosts Unplugged Socials, a nightlife event powered by Awe Lagos. If you don’t know, it also has an open mic segment, along with loads of other activities to keep you entertained after the talent showcase. For information, be sure to check out their social media pages.
Lagos has never been short on talent, only on spaces to let it breathe. Luckily, these open mic spots give talent room to grow, perform, and connect. So, whether you’re performing or in the crowd cheering, remember: every great artist started with just one mic.
