The Electronic Music scene in Lagos is becoming a movement that is showing no signs of slowing down, with Raves happening every month, and enough to feel like an every week thing. One thing is clear, Lagos Raves and Electronic Music is here to stay.

Raves are very community-oriented and a hub to a very vibrant and eccentric crowd, so you definitely have met one of these types of people on the dancefloor or just outside the venue (a popular routine in Lagos Raves). Either way, these profiles are sure to bring someone to mind or remind you of who you are on the dancefloor.

The House Disciple

a.k.a The Purist, every movement or anything worth believing in and has amassed a huge following over years, will always have that one guy who wants things to remain as they were. The House Disciple knows every DJ by name and their latest mixes. Only dances to “real” house music: disco, groovy, minimal, deep house.

The Fashion Killa

Everyday is a fashion show and the world is your runway! You came to slay, not sweat! Probably also a late comer, arriving just after peak hours, rocks avant-garde outfits that deserve their runway while holding a drink all night, while subtly moving to the beat.

The Energy God

The one person you seem to be having the most fun, jumping, spinning, screaming—never out of fuel! Usually the one leading a dance circle, will be on someone’s Instagram story the next day.

The Cool Kid

The nonchalant entrance, the subtle nods, “extra composure” and daps, usually behind the DJ, knows the organizers and half the crowd. Always gets in for free but doesn’t dance much—too cool for that!

The First-Timer

First off, definitely staring and just grinning ear to ear as people around just dance and have a great time. Overwhelmed but excited, sticking close to their more experienced raver friend.

The Trancer

They can dance solo in one spot for hours, move with their eyes closed, lost in the bass, usually upfront, or directly in front of the speakers. Occasionally saying things like “Bro, this set is taking me places.”

The Snapchat Raver

Has a video of every DJ’s set, phone always in hand, recording, snapping, tagging and documenting everything. Might disappear mid-rave to post a clip.
