Best Beaches to Visit in Lagos in 2025

In 2024, Lagosians faced a new reality — the beach scene had shifted dramatically, sparking the question: “Are there even any good beaches left in Lagos?” For many, a beach day meant boarding a boat to Ilashe, the go-to island for private beach houses and resorts. But for those who couldn’t afford the trip or didn’t want to deal with the long water route, the options were limited to Elegushi Beach… or giving up beach outings altogether.

Thankfully, 2025 is already looking up. We’ve done the work and rounded up some of the best beaches in Lagos worth visiting this year — from hidden gems to well-managed spots you can actually enjoy.

SOL Beach

Location: Elegushi private beach gate 2, Elegushi.

While The Good Beach was officially demolished in 2024, the vibe it curated lives on through SOL Beach by BoxMall. This isn’t an average beachfront. It’s intentionally and aesthetically curated, whether you’re claiming a beach lounger or cabana, cooling off in the adult pool, or exploring the boutique shops for that last‑minute beach outfit, Sol delivers without skimping on luxury.

  • Key features:
    • Water sports: swimming, surfing, jet-skiing, and kayaking are available.
    • Soft golden sand and shady palms; vendors sell snacks and chilled coconut water.

Entrance fee: typically ₦5,000 per adult, ₦3,000 for ages 7–17, while children under 6 enter for free

Best time to visit: Late afternoon to sunset on weekends or holidays for music and parties. Visiting on weekdays or early morning is quieter.

Tarkwa Bay Beach

Location: near the Lagos Harbor.

Accessible only by boat, Tarkwa Bay feels like a real escape from Lagos chaos, even though it’s technically part of the city. The beach is relatively calmer on weekdays and busy during weekends. The water is clear, and the shoreline is clean. The Island’s inhabitants are welcoming and will help you with anything—for a small token, of course

  • Key features:
    • Secluded vibe (boat-only access, often less crowded)
    • Water sports: swimming, surfing, jet-skiing, and kayaking are available.

Elegushi Beach (Ikate)

Elegushi is one of the longest-standing beachfronts in Lagos, home to numerous beach houses and clubs. It entertains close to 40,000 guests every week. It’s a great option for a spontaneous beach visit that doesn’t involve you travelling over water. You can come and go as you please.

Best time to visit: Late afternoon to sunset on weekends or holidays for music and parties. Visiting on weekdays or early morning is quieter.

Wave Beach

Location: Oba Elegushi Beach, Lekki Phase I.

It’s one of the few beaches on the Elegushi axis that manages to feel both premium and fun, without being too exclusive or chaotic. If you’re craving a beach day that feels like an all-day party without sacrificing the aesthetics, Wave Beach should be high on your list.
