It’s Friday’s eve people and here I am counting down to the weekend as I enjoy my ice cream at Hans and Rene.
It’s been one hell of a week, trust me, I’m just patiently waiting for the weekend to relieve myself.
I was at Dstv’s Super Sunday Premier League broadcast at the National stadium to watch the first match of the English premier League. Here’s what played out.
It was a thrilling encounter as Liverpool defeated Arsenal 4-3 ( quite unexpected to me) the crunch tie lived up to its billing as the game of the round.
The Gunners had well documented injury crisis in the middle of the defence prior to the game and had to parade a makeshift defensive pairing of Calum Chambers and new boy, Rob Holding. Liverpool also handed debuts to new signings Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan and it was the former who will have a huge say in the encounter by scoring a contender for goal of the season.
Theo Walcott missed an early penalty but atoned for his miss by netting within 3 minutes to put the Gunners ahead and Philipe Coutinho levelled matters with a majestic free-kick moments before half-time as both teams went into the break tied. Second half goals from Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho (his brace) and a sublime finish of the highest quality from Sadio Mane saw the Reds race into a 4-1 lead. Substitute, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reduced the deficit before Calum Chambers popped up with a headed goal but the rally was too late for a comeback as Liverpool emerged victorious 4-3 on the opening week of the English Premier League.
And the match ended with my jollof filled tummy and gifts from the sponsors plus entertainment from a guest artiste and DJ. Did I add that it was broadcasted live? Yeah you missed.
