January is popularly known to be the longest month of the year, but it has decided to leave that reputation behind in 2023. It feels like we went from the first day of January to the 23rd day of the month in just three minutes, which is surreal, but of course, we are not complaining.
In what feels like only a few days ago, we were outside celebrating and partying. We had a time last December as we were outside every single day, and that’s an experience worthy of a recap.
Here’s a list of some of the activities we enjoyed in December:
Beach Escape
Is your December really Detty without a trip to Ilashe, cruising on Lagos waterways in a private boat with your friends? Trust us to add this to our Detty December itinerary. We visited the beautiful and serene Bambu Beach Resort at Ilashe, and it was magical.
Nightlife
Of course, we turned up at the hottest clubs in Lagos multiple times. If you are a Lagosian, you already know the clubs are open till morning daily in December, and we had a blast each night. The best part was running into Afrobeats stars at the club and the spectacular side attractions that are currently the new wave in Lagos Nightlife scene. We partied till dawn at our favourite spots and repeated the next day.
Concerts
Your Detty December itinerary in Lagos is incomplete without one or two concerts. We passed the vibe check, as it wasn’t just one or two for us. Our December nights were eventful thanks to the Stacked December events, and Flytime also ensured we saw our top Afrobeats artists. Each event was special in its own way. Of all the concerts we attended, we had the most fun at Asake’s event on Christmas Day.
Owambe
We’ve already established that Lagosians love to party, and we love to party hard. The organisers of Owambe Fest called us to come party, and we answered. An excuse to party with great food, premium vibes, proper Lagos entertainment and music? Yes, please!
Brunch
We also took time to enjoy delicious food after all that partying. We tried out some regulars and even discovered a new spot, Gazzy Lagos and had an enjoyable brunch experience here. We recommend checking out this spot if you have yet to do so!
Wine Tasting
It’s December, after all, so something fancy was on our list. We visited Sally’s Fine Wine and Spirits at Ikoyi and indulged in this bucket-list adventure. We learned about wine and tried some of the best quality Champagne, Wine and Cognac in Lagos, and it indeed was an enlightening experience.
Art Exhibitions
Lovers of art also got to enjoy ongoing exhibitions this December. We attended the much-anticipated art exhibition by Mr Eazi at Windsor Gallery and got to experience an enchanting fusion of African music and art.
Stage Plays
This is another bucket list fave, as catching one or two stage plays in Lagos is always a good choice. There were several stage plays and musicals showing in Lagos in December, and we luckily caught Waterside, a stage play about brotherhood at Muson Center in Onikan.
Raves
While we were celebrating 2023, our plan to have maximum fun was brought to life with the number of raves happening in the city, and we got to attend a couple. We were partying with the best DJs in the city and having the time of our lives with other Weekenders. You had to be there.
Movie Premiere
We attended the premiere of Love and Life and had a ‘proud Nigerian’ moment in the presence of the original Y2K baddies, our beautiful and delectable Nollywood actresses -Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Nse Ikpe Etim, Kate Henshaw and more.
Bottom Line
December has always been and will continue to be a hit for Weekenders. We have fun all year round, then have even more fun by the end of the year just because we can.
