Water & Garri Debuts at No 1 in Nigeria, Ghana & Cameroon on Prime Video
Following successful premieres in London & New York, the highly-anticipated film, Water & Garri, by Everything Savage and Unbound Studios, made its return to Lagos for a grand night of celebration to host the Nigeria premiere on Thursday, May 9th at the Livespot Entertainment Center in Lagos, Nigeria.
The star-studded affair hosted pacesetters of the Nigerian entertainment industry including Toke Makinwa, Osas Ighodaro, DJ Spinall, Reekado Banks, Eku Edewor, BB Sasore, Jade Osiberu, Do2tun, amongst others, who stepped out to celebrate the directorial debut of Meji Alabi and the feature film acting debut of award-winning singer, Tiwa Savage.
The premiere echoed the vibrant energy of the film’s setting, East Side- bustling in energy and cultural richness.
Following its worldwide release on May 10th, Water & Garri has gone on to rank no 1 on Prime Video in Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon and Top 10 in South Africa, UK, Qatar, Cyprus, Uganda, Ukraine, Tanzania, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia & Benin Republic; demonstrating the power of authentic African storytelling and its ability to transcend borders.
Directed by Meji Alabi, The drama tells the story of Aisha (Savage), an ambitious fashion designer, as she returns to her native home after 10 years away in the U.S., following a family bereavement. At home, things have changed—violence has escalated and tensions have been high. As she reconnects with family, old friends, and her past love, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.
